6 Tips For Choosing A Good Bunk Bed and Loft Bed
How to Choose Good Bunk Beds and Loft Beds
Bunk beds and loft beds are extremely popular, especially for people who want to utilize small spaces. Even if you only have one child, bunk beds and loft beds are great for sleep-overs. Multi child rooms tend to use bunks beds often. When I was growing up, we had four girls sleeping on one bunk bed. The bottom bunk was a double size mattress and the top bunk was a twin size mattress. It worked great because all four of us girls had to share one room.
It seems as though every kid wants a bunk bed or a loft bed. But, you probably don’t know a ton of information about either bed. In order to buy a good quality bed that is going to last, you need to know your stuff. Everyone knows that children are hard on things. That is why it is so important that you buy a solid and sturdy bunk bed or loft bed. Here are some helpful tips you can use when you go to buy your bunk bed or loft bed.
1. Sit on it. Sit on the bottom bunk. Make sure that the bottom bunk can hold your weight. Chances are, if it can’t hold your weight, it isn’t sturdy enough. You also need to make sure that your head can clear the top bunk easily. Anyone who is going to use this bed needs to have enough room.
2. Shake it. Try shaking the bunk bed. Shake the bed as hard as you can. You want to check to make sure the bed can maintain stability while being rocked. Your children will probably be pretty rambunctious on this bed, so you want to double check to see if it is sturdy.
3. Guard rails. Your bunk bed or loft bed is going to have guard rails. Usually, these rails are on the top bed only. Make sure they run all the way around the bed. Check them to see if they are loose too. Don’t let your child fall off of the top bunk just because you were careless and didn’t check.
4. Support. You’ll want to make sure that there are support bars under each bed. These bars will offer your mattresses the only support it will get. Check to see if the slats are too far apart. If the slats are too far apart, it may not provide enough support and your mattress could wear out rather quickly.
5. Edges and Corners. Most likely, you are purchasing this bunk bed or loft bed for your children. Make sure that every edge and corner is well rounded, smooth and neat. Sharp edges and corners can cause serious injury to your child and his or her friends.
6. The Ladder. Every bunk bed and loft bed comes with a ladder. How else are you supposed to get to the top? Double check and make sure the ladder is sturdy. It shouldn’t be loose at all either.
When you go to buy a bunk bed or loft bed, use your common sense. Take a good look at the bed you are considering and make sure that everything is tight, secure and, most importantly, safe. You can be sure to buy a good quality bunk bed or left bed that can endure your children.
